The Social Services Committee’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families while embracing diversity. The committee aims to develop, implement, and manage human services programs ensuring that everyone in the community has access to the support they need. Additionally, offering multiple volunteer opportunities provides everyone with a chance to actively engage in giving back to their community and making a positive impact. Being part of such a committee not only allows people to contribute meaningfully but also fosters a sense of unity and compassion within the community.

Recurrent Meeting Time: Alternate Wednesdays at 7 PM
Rehab Visitation Program
The Rehab Visitation Program is designed to support and engage senior citizens residing at the Lindan Park Rehabilitation Center in Richardson. This program focuses on providing
companionship and enhancing the quality of life for residents through various activities, including general conversation, board games, bingo, dominoes, cards, arts and crafts, henna tattoos, and book reading.
Volunteer Opportunity:
Volunteers have the chance to engage in a variety of activities that bring joy and companionship to residents, such as playing games, participating in arts and crafts, and enjoying book readings. Your time and presence can make a significant diŠerence in their lives.
Volunteers needed: 16+ years

Twice monthly (One weekday and one weekend)

EPIC Food Pantry
The local food drive focuses on collecting non-perishable food items to support our community.
Volunteer Opportunity:
We invite community members to contribute by bringing non-perishable food items every Saturday after Dhuhr and leaving them in the designated truck. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help pack about 120 food boxes each Wednesday after Asr
prayer. Your support can make a meaningful diŠerence in the lives of those who rely on these essential resources.

EPIC Gift of Life - Blood Donation Camp
We organize quarterly blood donation campaigns inspired by the teachings of the Quran, particularly Chapter 5, Verse 32, which highlights the significance of saving lives. These events reflect our commitment to community service and the sanctity of human life, bringing people together to support those in need.

Back to School Program – Backpack Drive
The annual distribution of backpacks and school supplies takes place each summer before the school year begins. This initiative aims to support local families by providing essential supplies for their children. Backpacks filled with school supplies are prepared for distribution to those in need.
Volunteer Opportunity:
We are seeking donations of backpacks and school supplies to help us prepare for this important event. Volunteers are also needed to assist in packing the supplies into backpacks before distribution. Your contributions can ensure that local students start the school year equipped and ready to learn.

Ansaar Program
EPIC welcomes newcomers and reverts to Islam, aiming to provide a supportive environment where they can quickly feel part of the community. Recognizing the challenges faced by new reverts, EPIC offers assistance through its Ansaar (helpers) program, which provides support and mentorship. Newcomers and reverts are encouraged to fill out an online signup form, so volunteers from the Ansaar committee can reach out to offer help and introduce them to the community. The program is inspired by the Prophet’s (SAW) tradition of the muhajiroon-ansaar (migrant-helper) brotherhood and sisterhood.

Ansaar Responsibilities For Newcomers/Reverts:
Provide one paragraph summary about the newcomer (and his/her family if applicable) to be included in the
weekly e-newsletter.
Introduce the newcomer to the community after Isha prayer or during family night.
Provide gift bag to welcome them
Provide social support to the newcomer and family by providing:
Information about housing/ apartment options
Information about local schools, including Islamic and public schools
Introductions to other families
Help with transportation if needed
Other miscellaneous support
Religious questions should be referred to the Imam

Special Needs
EPIC aims to accommodate individuals with special needs by offering Quran classes tailored to their needs. These classes are designed to provide support and ensure everyone can engage with the Quran in a meaningful way
Volunteer Opportunity:
EPIC is looking for volunteers to teach Quran classes for individuals with special needs on Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 PM. If you’re interested in helping, please sign up to volunteer and make a positive impact in the community.

EPIC Clinic
EPIC Medical Clinic, part of the East Plano Islamic Center, is a free health clinic dedicated to addressing the healthcare needs of the underserved community. It tackles challenges like limited healthcare access and low health literacy, which contribute to chronic diseases and premature mortality. The clinic operates efficiently with a focus on patient care and community health initiatives, maximizing limited resources.
With 15 years of service, the clinic has earned the trust of the community, providing free primary care to over 3,000 uninsured individuals. It has a network of over 30 board-certified physicians in specialties like family medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, and more, ensuring comprehensive care. Additionally, the clinic engages 62+ medical assistants, all HIPAA certified, who support various clinic functions and gain hands-on experience in healthcare.
Clothes Packing Event
EPIC is collaborating with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) to pack clothes for those in need overseas. This initiative aims to support global relief efforts by providing essential clothing to communities facing hardship. Volunteers from the EPIC community will
come together to pack and organize clothing donations, which will then be sent to areas affected by crises. The collaboration with HHRD ensures that the aid reaches those in dire need, and this effort allows EPIC members to contribute to humanitarian relief while strengthening community bonds.
